Artisan cheeses are products of excellence that can be enjoyed in numerous ways such as paired with wine as an hors d’ oeuvres , used as a component on a charcuterie board, or as an after-dinner offering in place of desert. The enjoyment of artisan cheeses can be enhanced by using classic cuts for presentation.
Prior to making cuts, allow the cheese to sit at room temperature for two hours; the knife cuts will be more precise if the cheese is at room temperature. For firm cheeses, using a chef’s knife to cut is adequate; using a specialized cheese knife is highly recommended
The type of cut used will be influenced by the shape of the cheese. For example, a cylinder-shaped cheese such a goat cheese could be sliced into thin disks. The most common cuts will be a wedge or a triangle cut. A wheel of bloom rind cheese such as Brie or Camembert looks appealing in the wedge format (cut like a pizza slice). Rectangular shaped cheese such as cheddar can easily be turned into triangles by cutting from corner to corner; the cuts should be made in sizes that allow easy consumption.
