A Note from ACI’s Executive Chef November 2014

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

We are hoping that you will be putting some of your ACI knowledge to use this year to prepare the holiday meal (or at least part of it) for your friends and family.

This month we had a very special presentation on campus: a master butcher was on hand to fabricate an entire SIDE of beef in front of our students and faculty! Don’t get me wrong, all the instructors here know how to cut meat, but we could all learn a ton from a master butcher. It was a really neat thing to experience. If I was a gambling man, I bet it will happen again sometime…..just keep your eyes and ears open.

The Dexter-Russell knife company had a demo truck on campus to show our students everything they could want to know about knives. They parked outside the school for the day, and were available to answer all sorts of cutlery questions. It was a showroom/classroom on wheels. Very cool.

A few representatives from the Arizona Coalition for Military Families and the Arizona Department of Veteran Services came out to the campus to do some continuing education to help us better serve our Veteran students. Earlier this year we received our Arizona Veteran Supportive Campus Certification, and part of maintaining that status is to do continuing education throughout the year to ensure we are offering our Veteran students the best experience we can. All staff members were in attendance, and we all agreed that we learned quite a bit.

On December 5th we have our winter graduation! It is always so exciting and rewarding to see our students finish the program and celebrate with their loved ones. I speak for all of us when I say that we are so proud of you!
Lastly, on December 13th, we’ll have our final open house of the year. Chef Meyer will be doing a holiday baking class (call to sign up!!!), and we’ll be having our annual bake sale to benefit No Kid Hungry. All proceeds will go to charity. SO, stop by and see us, bake with Chef Meyer, buy some baked goods for a great cause, and grab some grub on the way out. We miss you and we want to see you! Happy Holidays!
